The start and end of the war
The start
On 28 June, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, was shot dead in Sarajevo, Bosnia. As Bosnia was claimed by neighbouring Serbia, Austria-Hungary blamed Serbia for the assassination , and on 28th July declared war. Germany supported Austria Hungary, Russia supported Serbia, and France Supported Russia. When Germany invaded neutral Belgium on It’s way to France, Britain declared war on Germany. The Great War had begun.
The end
On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month 1918 peace was declared. The Germans were starving and losing crucial battles. They couldn't go on.
